My Mercedez Benz CLK 500 is radio went kaput.The radio is on but it cannot find the CD Changer and no sound is coming out of the speakers!The CD/Radio/Tape does not produce any sound?Any idea what is causing this.How much would a dealer cost just to troubleshoot this problem.Also, how can l find if it uses 1 DIN or 2 DINs.l would like to replace it with something (GPS/dvd) that l can buy at Best from eCost, Best Buys, or Frys. You have a fault in the either D2B or MOST (depending on year of ur car) ring, Your radio components, Amplifier, CD Changer, etc r all linked thru a fiber optic network; the ring l mentioned earlier. If one component fails & cannot send the signal forward to next component in loop all of them r not functional. That is why u have no sound because the amp is not getting the signal from head unit. It might be something as simple as a a pulled out cable, blown fuse,etc Do yourself a favor & take it to the dealer or a Mercedes Independent specialist so they can tell u what is wrong. Theyll probably charge u between 100 & 200 for diagnosis with the Mercedes DAS & a Fiber optic network tester. We charge 150 for a diagnosis as this can get pretty involved. l would find out what is wrong before making the decision to replace the head unit because it would be alot of work & butchery to re wire everything, not to mention a Mercedes just doesnt look right with one of those single DIN receivers in there.
