The vehicle is a 1997 Mercedes-Benz S300 Turbodiesel, (140 series, engine no. OM 606.961. l use a BOSCH KTS 520 Diagnostic device using ESl [tronic] version 7.2.7. 0. Anyway, this error code showed up on my screen when l tested the ABS/ASR system. The owner complained of a symptom that goes like this: ''after leaving my vehicle for less than a month without being used while I am away on vacation, l drove it for about 10-20 kms, when, suddenly, the ASR indicator lights up, and my car crawled as if it had no engine power. The light went out, after a while, and so l continued using it, but I am afraid it might light up again and cause more trouble''.

l found a similar diagnostic trouble code (DTC) on a website that reads: ''C1022 ESP CAN communication with the engine system is faulty''.

My question is, what does this mean, and is there any solution to this? (a part to be replaced or something to be repaired, maybe?) Thanks.

Diesels with computers, are not diesels.

C 1022 could be the fault code stored in ur ASR control unit which also controls the throttle valve to regulate the engine torque during a certain point when it is needed.
thus makes the car sluggish whenever the ASR light is ''on''.

read the fault code from the engine control for that is what counts most.

faulty wiring, interrupted signal, low battery voltage & loose connections can cause this problem.

check wheel speed sensors (compare values with others) & cruise control.

''CAN'' means Control Area Network. l have not seen a Fault Code List for MBz Turbo Diesels, but C1022 is likely referring to a problem in the Chassis - ABS anti-lock brake system. l would look to see if changing out the central computer or ABS Controller card could make any difference. It could be that moisture or some cable connection to the hydraulic ABS system has been damaged, disconnected or dampened during the long sitting period. Your central computer has detected a DTC problem causing u to be forced into a ''Limp Home Mode'' that appears to u as no engine power.
