The digital speedometer works fine. The mechanical speedometer does not go past 40 mph.

If u fix it yourself using spares or 3rd party parts then it should cost around £30-£100. If u have it fixed at the garage then expect to pay about £400-£500, which includes the labour time & extra cost of the very expensive Mercedes parts.

Bare in mind that it is only a minor annoyance (seeing as one of ur speedo is work) & unless u can fix it yourself then it is probably not worth the high cost of having a professional fix it.

If its a E or S class or Vito will be up for some serious dollar. it sounds like the sender unit is working correctly as the digital side is working, this means that all speed data is getting through on the CAN, the Fault sounds like its with the electronic unit that powers the needle, new speedo unit would fix that.. you may have a mission on your hands trying to get a second hand one.

If it is an S-Class, Mercedes-Benz has extended the warranty on the instrument cluster to 10 yrs or 100,000 miles. Any other model usually estimates around $1000.00. l hope you have an S-Class and are within the miles. Good luck!
