The Maybach existed before the Mercedes benz, but went out of production. They were brought back into the market by mercedes benz, you can call it a joint venture. But whatever it is, that car is grrreeeat!

Maybach vehicles are manufactured by Mercedes Benz. It is the Benz ultra-luxury vehicle, designed to compete with vehicles such as Rolls Royce for example.

BTW otunba, Mercedes is the oldest car company in the world, Maybach models came after Benz, not the other way around.

eh. Maybach is currently a company owned by Diamler-AG (the parent company of mercedes), but maybach is not a direct mercedes-benz model. There r multiple maybachs in production (well, three the 57, 62, & excelero).

Also, u buy a maybach from the maybach headquarters (each car is custom made), NOT a regular MB dealership. Think of volkswagen & Bentley (yes, volkswagen owns Bentley). Volkswagen group owns Bentley, but Bentley operates as a separate company.

er, a better comparison would be BMW & Rolls-Royce (yes, BMW owns rolls-royce). they operate as separate companies but r owned by the same parent company.

The Maybach is made by Daimler-Benz but is a separate brand from Mercedes-Benz. They are marketed separately as an ultra-high end brand.

Yes, it is a current model built by Daimler AG. Wilhelm Maybach built luxury cars without equal in Germany in the 1920 is & 30's. He was an engineer for DaimlerBenz who went out on his own to build high-end luxury vehicles. The brand was resurrected by Daimler/Benz a few years ago, & they r marketed through select Mercedes Benz dealers in the USA. They share very few components with other Mercedes products, a few minor parts in newer S-class vehicles were first designed for use in the Maybach. The current S-class chassis ia a 221 & has nothing in common with the Maybach chassis, the 240.
